Maersk Logistics forms partnership with UQBS

11 August 2008

Maersk Logistics has entered in a strategic partnership with UQBS (The University of Queensland Business School, Australia). The partnership includes scholarships, graduate recruitment, executive education, and intellectual capital sharing. Since 2007, the company has sponsored one Ph.D research in co-opetition, and conducted six lectures for the students of the School.

In November 2007, Maersk Logistics reached an agreement with the UQBS to build a long-term and collaborative partnership. In pursuit of innovative outcomes, both organisations are working towards mutually favourable initiatives, including:

  • Offering a scholarship programme that is designed to support and acknowledge postgraduate education in international supply chain management,
  • Jointly running postgraduate courses and commercial up-skilling courses,
  • Opening up research opportunities and advancing status quo to the supply chain industry,
  • Developing and sharing intellectual capital, and building employment opportunities for graduates and young professionals.
  • Since the beginning of the initiative, Maersk Logistics has sponsored, in conjunction with The University of Queensland and Logistics Association Australia, one Ph.D study. The research topic is on competition and cooperation, with a special focus on 3PL and 4PL. The company has also delivered six lectures, both by its industry experts and guests speakers. The topics include world class supply chain, strategic sourcing, global logistics, future challenges of the industry, carbon emission and the supply chain, and inventory management. The lectures are well received by the students.

In a short term, both parties take advantage of each others’ network to disseminate knowledge and quality research finding, identify industry trends, and tackle emerging logistics issues. In a long term, the vision is to lead in the research and development of the whole industry.
